The Law has prescribed time limit to file a Suit or a Criminal Case including that of Appeal or Applications before any Courts or Forums and this is called limitation.

In Cr.P.C. no Court shall take any case if limitation period is ceased as follows;

1. If the offence is punishable with only fine then it is 6 months
2. One year if the offence is punishable with imprisonment for a term less than 1 year
3. Three years if the offence is punishable with imprisonment for a term 1 year and above but not beyond 3 years. Otherwise, the period of limitation shall be calculated over years of punishable offence with imprisonment depending upon severe and severest punishment as the case may be.
