ACT OF GOD!

Taking shelter against the disbursal of GST dues to the States, the Union Government yesterday calls its inefficiency, as an Act of God, the term shrewdly used by the Insurance Companies and Transporters and all those who enters into contractual obligations – traditionally claims blanket immunity, legally, in the name of God for their accountability towards their customers.

Unfortunate is that some States even ruled by the present dispensation have openly admitted that they have contributed reasonable collections on the GST front despite Corona Pandemic. For example, Karnataka had achieved about 71% GST collections, a remarkable feat in this Pandemic time.

Though the Union Government claims Corona as an Act of God and shying away from its responsibility on accepting it – its own mismanagement of the economy, by having kept the nation in locking mode since March 26 with just 4 hour notice of lockdown.

It is evident from what Supreme Court had said a couple of days ago while hearing a PIL on extending moratorium by banks to the industries. The Apex Court rebuked the Centre for its role in creating mess in the Country by lock down and advised it not to depend on RBI.

Now that the Union Finance Minister has given an option to the States to borrow from RBI.
