FAMILY COURTS AT CHENNAI

Family Courts were formed with an aim to expedite marital disputes reaching the Courts astonishingly in numbers! Today, Family Court is a separate jurisdiction and one cannot seek Divorce in the Civil Court. However, in rural areas, where you don’t have specially formed Family Courts, the Sub Courts are disposing marital disputes.

Year on year, the marital disputes are increasing in numbers and equally the Courts were also increased in numbers, yet the Courts are unable to dispose of the cases in big numbers. For example, the Family Courts in Chennai leaving aside Principal Family Court, seven in numbers, but, still every Court is hearing on an average 50 cases per day and of which marking of documents, cross examination and arguments on interim applications and on the final leg goes sizably. No doubt the Judges are overloaded!

If not exaggerated, with the change in guard in the Principal Family Court at Chennai, we have noticed series of changes taking place with them in the Court activities – particularly on the administration front. Today, Family Courts at Chennai are well equipped with seating arrangements and child care centre, drinking water and urinal facilities.

Counselling and Mediation is another area, where the Family Courts at Chennai give their best to settle the dispute amicably, not driving the couples to the tedious path of Trial.
