AIMS & OBJECTS – CONDITIONS SET BY BRITISH!

On 1st December 1946, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru at the Constituent Assembly moved a Resolution Re Aims and Object and gave a long speech pleading for its acceptance by the House and spoke as follows [and the following is a small extract];

You all know that this Constituent Assembly is not what many of us wished to it to be it has come into being under particular condition and the British Government has a hand in its but they have attached to it certain condition we have accepted the State paper which may be called the foundation of this Assembly, after serious deliberation and we shall endeavour to work within its limits but we must not ignore the source from which this Assembly derive its scent. Government do not come into being by State papers. Government are in fact expression of the Will of the People, we have met here today because of the strength of the people behind us and we shall go as far as the people, not of any party or group but the people at a whole shall wish us to go we should therefore always keep in mind the passions that live in the heart of the masses of the Indian people and try to fulfill them.”

Comment: The complete study of the Constitution of India would reveal what extent aims and objects as stated by the State papers vis-à-vis the Will of the people then and now.
